Power Supply
Look into film solar panel rolls for powering notebooks:
They are $200 but possibly 1 or 2 can be donated. They work in low light conditions (clouds/rain) and fit into a large backpack for transport. Connect them to a charge controller:
this make sure higher voltage does not boil your battery away. for this setup, a morningstar sunsaver-10 is the ticket. Add one laptop battery, and a small inverter like for a car lighter plug, and you have a 5 9's power system for a laptop.
Furthermore, if solar is not sufficient at any given period, the same power system can be recharged or run by a vehicle, the voltages are the same.
Weather Proofing
You may be interested in something like this, light, hard plastic, waterproof, carry handles. Made for easy setup and teardown.
Also the obvious:
- Put notebooks etc in large zip-loc bags. Will probably cause overheating. Careful.
Audio
Any kind of windscreen over the camera mic would minimize the wind noise which there is a LOT of on the livestream, making it impossible to hear most of the time if there's a breeze in the treeze. Here's some cheap DIY solutions for a deadcat (furry windscreen):
- http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?19286-DIY-Dead-Cats (for shotgun mics)
- http://forum.indymogul.com/showthread.php?t=22490 (also for shotguns, but maybe foam eggcrate applicable to internal?)
- http://www.freshdv.com/2010/07/diy-deadcat-dslr-mic.html (for internal camera mics)
Has been adressed, new equipment on ground incl. external mic with wind shield.
